Fred Pattje

Fred Pattje will bring change to
Nanaimo’s City Council.
This morning, at a small gathering of supporters,
Fred Pattje announced that he will bring change to
Nanaimo’s stagnant city council by seeking a council
seat in the upcoming November 15th civic election.
Among the initiatives that Mr. Pattje strongly
supports is the creation of more affordable housing
and the change to a two term limit for City
Councillors.
“I was amazed to read in the media that some City
Councillors have accepted corporate campaign
donations” said Pattje “from the very companies that
repeatedly come to Council seeking revisions to the
citizens’ Official Community Plan. This has to
change; I will welcome financial support for my
campaign expenses from individuals, but not from
corporations”.
Mr. Pattje is a long time community activist and
consensus builder. His community-driven platform for
change is strong on due process, environmental
integrity and intelligent spending at City Hall. “I
believe that public benefit must always trump
private interest” said Fred Pattje to his
supporters.

Gord Fuller
50ish,
6' tall, long greying hair. KIDDING Folks. The
aforementioned is true but perhaps something more
descriptive is appropriate. I have been an outspoken
community and social activist in Nanaimo for over a
decade working with a number of different groups and
organizations (see
my platform) over the years.
This experience gives me the
knowledge and understanding of our community that I
believe is necessary for any elected official. I
believe strongly in a person's right to freedom of
speech provided they do not intentionally set out to
hurt in doing so.
I intensely dislike closed
mindedness and racism and believe that everyone, no
matter their current situation, has the potential to
benefit society.

continue to serve the Nanaimo Community in a more

“I have served on numerous committees since moving to

A proponent of economic growth and development, she is

“Nanaimo needs someone like her on city council.”

Rod Lomas
My
wife Sandra and I and our two young daughters have
resided in Ladysmith for nearly four years now; moving
here from Kamloops and Richmond, BC before that. I was
born and raised in Victoria, B.C. My Father helped
construct the Nanaimo Airport and brought many an Island
community their Food and supplies by Truck from the
1930’s onward for many years. Both my father and my
mother had exemplary work ethics and dedication to
family; which, I like to think I inherited. My father
built his own houses; his first house he built while
working full time at his regular job and construction of
the house on nights and weekends; this, while his family
lived on Island View Beach in a tent until completion.
Who would do this today? My High School Motto is “No
reward without effort”. This is such a truth in life.
I am currently employed with Nav Canada as an Air
Traffic Specialist at the Nanaimo Airport; a complex
profession; where lives and property depend on effective
decision making and action. Previous to this I was a
licensed Tradesman Diesel Mechanic; I also spent a short
Time in the Canadian Navy on active sea duty. I earned a
Business Certificate from LCC Lethbridge, Alberta; I
have completed Communication; Negotiation; Mediation and
Conflict Resolution program courses from the Justice
Institute of BC. I attended the recent
State-of-the-Island Economic Summit in Nanaimo October
22, 2008.
Issues I think important to Ladysmith:
• Acute economic down-turn;
• Vancouver Island economic stimulation strategy.
• Responsible Custodianship of Holland Creek, Parks and
Trails
• Conservation of Transfer Beach Park and adjacent Slag
Point for generations to come.
• Water front access and enjoyment for all; i.e.
Boardwalk and or trail system.
• Community Marina and services development. World Class
cruising grounds at our door step
• Transitioning from a Heavy Industrial economy to a
Light Industrial and Tourism economy.
• Integrated Transportation system:
o Utilize existing corridors; i.e. Support Island Corridor Foundation
o Link Transportation & land use
o Protected Bike and scooter lanes
o Access to Airport and ferries
o Trolley proposal due diligence
• School zone traffic management
• Airport expansion opportunities
• Downtown revitalization
• FJCC enhancements addressing Senior and Junior privacy needs
• Festival events and other tourism attractors
• Garbage Collection issues

As a two term member of City Council I am pleased to announce my intentions to run for the position of Councilor with the City of Nanaimo for a third term. I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your confidence and ongoing support of my ambitions to represent the interests of our City.
As we embark on a new era in our City Governance and new direction for our future generations to enjoy and embrace, it is imperative our City elects a strong and balanced representation of community leaders. Leaders who have the strength, conviction, fortitude and vision necessary to take our City forward and reach its full potential. The City continues to make progress in the most challenging of economic times.Partnerships with our Provincial, Federal and local partners have lead to significant improvements in our transportation infrastructure including our Cruise Ship Terminal and the Collishaw Airport, upgrades to the downtown district, the purchase of Neck Point Park, the long awaited sewer to Green Lake, a positive Official Community Plan, park protection of Maffeo Sutton Park through through Bylaw enactments and the creation of the Economic Development Corporation are only a few of the many achievements actualized. We have strengthened our relationships with Provincial agencies, Sunneymeux First Nations, community leaders and stakeholders to create a positive environment for business growth, commerce and prosperity for all citizens.
As a lifetime resident and community partner, I am committed to investing my heart, soul and resources to ensure Nanaimo reaches its full potential, with your guidance and support.
I am an advocate for a Core Services Review to ensure efficiencies, productivity and customer service are emphasized. I continue to support the creation of a Sports, Entertainment, Cultural and Commerce Centre through a creative strategic plan engaging the public sector with buy in from all stake holders. I will continue efforts to minimize tax increases with a priorized asset growth and management program.
I believe in a NANAIMO FIRST concept and I hope you do too. Please visit My Platform page for a more detailed outline and I look forward to your support.
